No Sew Pillow
Make a Beautiful Throw Pillow with No Sewing

Throw pillows make any bed or couch more
comfortable and more attractive. There's just nothing like cuddling up
with a nice, soft pillow at the end of a long day, except maybe cuddling
up with a nice, soft home-made pillow.
Throw pillows are surprisingly easy to make. You can even make one if
you don't know how to sew. Read on to see how simple it is.
Here are the instructions.
Supplies
* 1 yard of patterned fleece
* 1 yard of fleece in a coordinating solid color
* 24-inch pillow form or fiber fill
* Sturdy scissors
* Measuring tape
* Disappearing ink pen
* Lots of large, straight pins
* 1 5"x5" piece of cardboard
* 1 5"x3/4" piece of cardboard
Instructions
1. Lay both pieces of fleece flat on a large surface, with the wrong
sides of the fabric facing each other. Smooth the fleece out until there
are no wrinkles and no bunching, making sure the edges are even with
each other.
2. Pin the pieces of fleece together using the straight pins, placing
them a few inches from the edges. It's okay if one piece is a little
larger than the other. You can trim it down after you're done pinning.
3. Trim the selvage edges off, and even the pieces up to the same size
if necessary. Smooth the fabric out once again.
4. Take your piece of 5"x5" cardboard and lay it on the corner of your
blanket. Cut out the corner through both layers of fabric.
Do the same with the remaining 3 corners.

5. Take your 5"x3/4" piece of cardboard
and place along the side of your fabric, starting at one end. Cut
fringes out along all sides of the fabric.

6. Place your pillow form between the two pieces of fabric. Starting at a corner, tie each strip from the patterned fabric to the strip of plain fabric behind it. Tie them in a double knot, but not too tight. Tie some fringes in each corner before doing the rest of them to help keep the fabric straight. If you are using fiber fill, tie 3 sides and then stuff your pillow and tie the last side.

If you have good square throw pillows but would like a new look, you
could use this method to cover them with fleece. Just measure the pillow
and cut the fabric 10 inches longer than the measurement. Or if you
prefer a shorter fringe, only add 3 or 4 inches.
You can also make
blankets
using this technique, so it's easy to create a matching set. If you can
find patterned fleece that features a favorite football, baseball,
basketball or hockey team, such a set would make a great gift for the
sports fan on your list. Patterns for kids could be used to make nice
sets to go on their beds.
Who would have thought that making new throw pillows would be this easy?
This project is so easy that a pre-teen could do it, and smaller
children could assist with it. Yet the finished product looks like it
took a great deal of time and effort.
Use your imagination, I made one of these for
my sister in-law's first grandchild.
I used the avery printable fabric kit to print the photo on fabric. You can just iron it on or iron and appliqué.

Don't let your inability to sew stop you from giving a warm, cuddly handmade pillow as a gift. With this technique, anyone can whip up a pillow in no time.
For
a twist on this gift: Try a
different shape, such as this lion pillow. We knotted together squares
of orange and yellow fleece and brought our king of the jungle to life
with cord whiskers, and felt eyes and nose attached with tacky glue. For
square pillows, follow the directions above.

Supplies
* 1 yard of red fleece
* 1 yard of green fleece
* fiber fill
* Sturdy scissors
* Measuring tape
* Chalk
* Lots of large, straight pins
1. Cut 2 identical heart shapes from the fleece, 1 red, 1 green.
To allow for a 4-inch fringe, be sure to cut the hearts 8 inches larger
than you want your finished pillow. We cut ours 26 inches across and 22
inches long for an 18- by 14-inch pillow (I have a template you
can use, just click here).
2. On 1 fleece heart, use a ruler and chalk or a disappearing-ink
pen to draw a heart 4 inches in from the edge of the fabric (see
illustration). Measure and draw fringe that's about 1 inch wide and 4
inches long (up to the center heart, as shown).
3. Stack the hearts with your chalk lines on top. Cut the fringe, through both layers of fleece, stopping at the center heart.
4. Begin at the bottom point of the heart and tie the top piece of fringe to the bottom piece by double-knotting them. Continue up the side of the pillow. At the dip at the top, knot together the top 4 fringes (2 pairs) into 1 double knot to cinch the opening more tightly. Then go back to knotting just 2 fringes until only 4 pairs are untied.
5. Stuff the heart with fiberfill. Tie the remaining fringes. Brush off any chalk that still shows. Ink lines should disappear according to the package directions.
